Today we will be showing you how to replace your third door, door handle or rear door handle on your extended cab Chevy/ GMC pickup truck. First we will start off by removing the screws that hold the door handle to the door. I am going to use my dewalt impact screw driver to break the two T27 torx bit bolts loose as the bolts have some threadlock on them. You could also use a 3/8 breaker bar ratchet and a T27 torx bit socket set. So we will remove the two bolts and the old broken handle.
With the broken handle removed you will see the locking mechanism. It is a good idea while the handle is out of the way to lubricate it. I am going to lubricate mine using CRC dry graphite lube. There is a right side handle and a left side handle make sure you buy the side you need. The smaller edge of the taper should be at the top. Once you have finished lubricating the lock mechanism we can place some blue threadlock on the bolts and install the new replacement handle. Place the handle into position and then install the bolts. If the holes don’t line up with the locking mechanism grab the inside of the third door handle and move it till they align.
Once you have both screws in and tight you can test the handle function. Next we can close the door and use the newly installed handle to open the door. It functions correctly so that’s it you have just replaced your third door, door handle or rear door handle on your extended cab Chevy / GMC pickup truck.
