We are going to be showing you this on a 2001 Dodge 2500 pick up truck. It should be the same steps for other U bolts as well. Just ensure you get the correct parts for your vehicle.

So to start well grab an electric grinder or cut off wheel. On this truck one of the U bolts has rusted off and broke.

We’ll take the grinder and cut the 3 remaining U bolts just above where they go into the plates.

Next we can remove the plate and the old U bolts to get them out of the way.

With the old u bolts removed we can slide into position the new rough country U bolts. Making sure that the top drops into the groove / notch on top of the leaf spring.

Once we have both U bolts dropped in we can slide under the truck and place the U bolt plate onto the bottom of the U bolts. Making sure the curved part of the bracket goes upward towards the rear end axle tube.

With the plate onto the end of the U bolts we can next slide on the flat washers and then start the nylon locking nuts.

Once we have all four flat washers and nylon locking nuts in place we can grab a 15/16 socket and ratchet and snug up the nuts.

When tightening them, move around in a crisscross pattern to pull the plate up evenly and also check to make sure the top of the U bolt is still in the groove.

Once we have them snugged down we can grab a torque wrench and for this truck we are going to set it to 125lbs. Well torque down all four nuts.

Next we’ll repeat the same steps to get the passenger side replaced. We’ll grab the grinder and cut all four old U bolts just before they go through the bracket.

With them cut we can remove the plate off the bottom and the old u bolts.

Now that we have torqued the passenger side nuts. That’s it we have just shown you how to replace U bolts and U bolt plates on a leaf spring.
