Today we are going to be showing you how to replace a seatbelt buckle stop button. We are going to be showing you on this 2009 Subaru Outback.

It will be the exact same process for any make and model car or truck. The only thing is you will want to get/ order the correct color to match your vehicle’s interior.

They have them in Black, Grey, Tan. For a shop or someone with multiple vehicles they make a kit with all three colors.

The seat belt button stop is the plastic button installed on the webbing of the seat belt that holds the seatbelt buckle from sliding to the floor board of the car/ truck.

Its made of plastic and sometimes break from it getting caught in the door or on something. The Button stops are easy and cheap to replace but often go unfixed.

So on this Subaru Outback the drivers side button is broken and gone. The passenger side is still there but the local parts store only had black ones in stock and the customer just wanted it fixed as this interior color is tan. So we will be removing the passenger side and installing new black stop buttons in this car.

We will start on the passenger side. We will use a utility knife to cut and remove the old tan button stop. Next we can open the new Dorman black colored button stop. We will need a pin half and the receiver half.

**** Make sure the seatbelt clip/ buckle is above the button stop ****

We’ll locate the old hole though the seat belt webbing and slide the pin half though it. If you need to make a new hole in the seatbelt webbing you can use a ice pick. Next we can take the receiver part and align it with the pin part and hold them together with our thumb and finger.

Next we can grab a pair of pliers, squeeze the two halves together and clip them together. Once clipped together we can move it around to make sure that they are connected.

With the passenger side removed and replaced we can now move onto replacing the drivers side.

For the drivers side we will try to locate where the old button was located so that they are at the same height. If you can’t tell where the clip was located on the seat belt you can grab a tape measure and measure the passenger side and make it match.

For us we can see the discolored part where the button stop was located.

**** Make sure the seatbelt clip/ buckle is above the button stop ****

Well stick the pin side though the same hole in the seat belt webbing. Then we’ll grab the receiver part and align it with the pin.

Next we can grab pliers and squeeze them together. Once together we can move it around to ensure it’s clipped together.

With both the passengers and drivers side replaced that’s it we have just shown you how to replace a seatbelt buckle stop button.
