Today we are going to be showing you how to replace a 08-13 Subaru Forester tail light assembly. we will be using this 2009 Subaru Forester on the driver’s side tail light. It will be the same steps to replace the passenger side tail light as well.
It will also be the same steps to remove the tail light to replace either the running/ brake light bulb, turn signal bulb or the reverse light bulb.
To start well go to the back of the Forester and open the lift gate or rear hatch. Once we have that opened we can locate the two 10mm screws within the lift gate area.
Next we can grab a 10mm socket, extension and a ratchet. Well use that to remove the two 10mm bolts.
Once we have the two bolts removed we can grab the tail light and pull it straight towards the rear of the Forester and pop it out of the three clips.
If you needed to just replace one of the bulbs in the tail light you can twist the bulb socket and remove it from the tail light housing. Since we are changing the tail light out well keep going.
With the tail light pulled out we can grab a flat screwdriver and use it to depress the wiring clip to undo it. With the wiring clip undone we can completely remove the tail light from the car.
Next we can open the new tail light and get it ready to install. We first clip in the wiring making sure it’s connected.
With the wiring connected we can now slide the tail light into position. Once we have it sitting there we can go ahead and test all the bulbs to ensure that they all work before we clip the tail light in.
Well test the running/ brake light bulb, turn signal bulb and the reverse light bulb to ensure that they all are working.
Once we have tested them all and they work we can now clip the tail light into position. You should hear it click.
With the tail light installed into the car we can start the two 10mm bolts by hand that hold the tail light position.
Once they are started we can grab the 10mm socket, extension and ratchet and snug them down.
With those two bolts tightened down that’s it we have just shown you how to replace a tail light assembly 08-13 Subaru Forester
