Today we will be showing you how to install a maxx air vent cover. This install will be for the original vent cover as they have come out with a newer model called the Maxx Air Vent 2 which has a larger venting area to accommodate the newer trailers that have the larger fan or someone with an older trailer who has done a big fan upgrade. They both will fit a vent size of 14” x 14”. They make the covers in black and white so depending on the color of your A/C cover and other vents you can get it to match.

This is a vent cover that covers the crank up vents on an enclosed trailer, trailer trailer or RV. The purpose of the cover is to allow you to keep the vent open all the time while not having to worry about rain getting inside. It’s great to have while the camper is not in use or in storage allowing the heat to escape through the vent giving you some air exchange.

So for tools needed to install the maxx air vent we will need a ladder to access the trailer’s roof, cordless drill and a 3/16 drill bit, phillips screwdriver, adjustable wrench, pencil, and utility knife. Now that we have these tools ready we can make our way to the top of the trailer’s roof.

To start the install we are going to take the knife and cut the hardware bag tape off the vent cover. Once we have that removed we can take the vent and with the rounded part of the vent facing towards the front of the trailer and the vented part towards the rear of the trailer and place the vent cover over the vent you plan to install it on.

At this time we have the cover placed we are going to center it front to back, left to right over the vent. Once we are happy with the placement we can grab the pencil and make a mark inside the holes of the vent cover onto the trailer roof on all four corners. I ended up using the four outward most holes on this trailer.

With those marked out we can remove the cover. Once we have the cover removed we can now open the vent itself. Now you will want to open the vent all the way and then close it 3-4 turns or so as with the vent all the way open the vent cover will not fit as the vent will open farther than the vent cover will allow.

Now with the vent cover now open we can grab one of the L shaped brackets and place it on the roof so that the long part of the L is on the trailer’s roof and the short side is up against the vent rim making sure the slotted hole is aligned with our pencil mark on the roof.

Once we have the L bracket in place we can now take the pencil and make a mark on the vent rim in the smaller hole in the L bracket. Once we have marked the first one we can repeat and mark out the other three, so that we have four new marks on the vent rim.

Now that we have the four marks on the vent rim we can now grab the cordless drill and the 3/16 drill bit and drill the vent rim. Once we have the four holes drilled for some added protection I’m going to put a dab of lexel into/ around the holes just to ensure no water can enter the trailer. Now that we have done that we can grab the L bracket and slide the carriage bolt into the long slotted hole that goes against the roof. Once we have done that we will place the bracket on the roof inline with the hole in the vent rim.

With the bracket in place we can grab the phillips screw and put it into the bracket and through the vent rim. Next we can grab the flat washer and place it inside the vent onto the screw. Next we can grab the lock washer and place that on the screw and then the nut. We’ll tighten it as much as we can by hand then we can grab the Phillips screwdriver and tighten it the rest of the way, being sure to hold the bracket against the trailer roof. Once we have it tight we can use our fingers and spread the lexel out.

Once we have the first one complete we can repeat the steps to install the other three brackets.

Now that we have all the brackets installed into the vent rim we can now place the cover onto the bolts and brackets. Once we have the cover on we can grab the lock washers and put them onto the screw and then start the nut by hand. Repeat for the other three bolts.

Currently we have all four lock washers and nuts on we can adjust the cover so you are happy with the placement. Once you are happy with the cover placement you can grab the adjustable wrench or a 7/16 nut driver or ratchet and socket and tighten the nuts down to hold the cover in place.

You will notice a gap between the bottom of the cover and the roof. This is normal and doesn’t require caulking. The gap is to let any condensation within the inside of the vent cover to run down the inside of the cover and out onto the trailer’s roof.

So with those four 7/16 nuts tight holding the vent cover in place that’s it we have just shown you how to install a maxx air vent cover.
